Tim Hardaway is learning the hard way that there is a penalty for sin. Hardaway recently made incredibly harsh comments regarding the revelation that former NBA player John Amechi is gay. Hardaway is quoted as saying "I hate gay people". Now Hardaway is banned from participating in any of the NBA All-Star events.
Hardaway represents what many feel regarding homosexuals. I can relate. The fact is hate is just as big of sin as homosexuality. I know I have had to come to grips with this fact to.
After listening to a local talk show on this subject, I was saddened to hear callers, claiming to be Christians, trying to justify Hardaway's comments. Hate cannot be part of our lexicon. We sometimes try to cloak our hatred for others in very magnanimous quotes such as "hate the sin, love the sinner". This can only be used if our hearts are really pure on the subject.
Amechi is wrong for embracing his sin. So is Hardaway.
